RICHMOND, VA - Today, Speaker of the House Delegate Kirk Cox announced the formation of the Select House Committee on School Safety. Delegate Mike Mullin has been appointed to serve on this committee along with 21 other delegates from across the state. The recommendations of this committee will inform legislation in the upcoming 2019 session.
“I am honored to be a member of this Select Committee,” said Delegate Mullin upon the announcement this morning. “School safety is an issue that should be taken seriously, and this committee is a step in the right direction to making that happen and seeing real change. Among other issues, I am most looking forward to discussing how to prevent shootings in our schools and how to address vicious bullying both online and in person among school-aged children. School shootings and bullying claim students’ lives unnecessarily and proposing legislation on these issues will help make students, teachers, staff, and Virginia schools safer.”
This Select Committee will be meeting in Richmond over the next six months and will present a report to the General Assembly by the end of the calendar year. To read Speaker Cox’s letter to committee members, click here.
